Mount Arvon, Michigan (1,979')

7 August 2002

Mount Arvon is an uninteresting hilltop in the middle of the woods. But the nearby Porcupine Mountains are great for hiking and backpacking, with trails running along Lake Superior, and cutting through the rolling hills of the park. As an added bonus, the cops in that area of the UP are very friendly. 77 in a 55 gets you a warning and an enthusiastic suggestion to enjoy your backpacking trip.
